The Queen Elizabeth Hospital - New Research Building

Project Description

The new 3 story Research Building is stage 2 of a major 300 million dollar upgrade over a five year period at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It is a 4,800 square meter building and houses the hospitals science and research facilities.

Services Description

Mechanical services in the new Research Building are multi-discipline in line with the clients multi-use requirements and consist of general mechanical services, medical gases and vacuum, fume cupboards, chemical storage and building management system (BMS).  The mechanical services consist of dual air cooled chillers, natual gas fired boilers, a variable air volume distribution system, variable refrigerant volume a/c systems and cool / freezer rooms.

Project Data

Completed October 2008.  Mechanical Services value approximately 1.7 million dollars

 

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital - New Inpatients Building

Project Description
The new Inpatients Building is part of a 300 million dollar redevelopment of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It is a 3 storey, 4,500 square meter building connected to the existing Inpatients facility housing patients rooms, treatment areas, clinics, offices and staff training facilities.

Services Description
The Mechanical Services consist of a roof mounted, air cooled, high efficiency chiller serving zoned air handlers. Heating hot water is taken from an adjacent existing plantroom together with a chilled water connection that provides a full backup to the new system. Westside's contract also includes the Medical Gases systems.

Project Data
Completed March 2007. Mechanical Services value approx $1.7m

 

 

 

 

St Andrews Hospital

With the thermal plant reaching the end of it's servicable life Westside were appointed to upgrade the mechanical systems.  Removing the redundant equipment and installing a new water cooled chiller system into a live and operating environemnt was a challenge that Westside successfully undertook in close collaboration with the client.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

University of Adelaide Medical School & Bioskills Facility

This facility for the University of Adelaide consists of two 10 story buildings side by side, joined by a link, and houses their major Medical School teaching, research and administrative activities.

Services Description
For the 'North' building upgrade Westside took on the role of main contractor.  Our works included the decommissioning, dismantling and removal of redundant absorbtion chiller, cooling towers and pumps from the roof top plant room.  The chiller was replaced with a new, water cooled scroll type chiller and asscoaited cooling towers and pumps. The building was fully occupied during the work which required close collaboration with the client and building occupants.  A task Westside successfully achieved!

The 'South' building upgrade was the new Bioskills facility.  Mechanical works included supply and installation of new supplementary air cooled chiller and upgrading of exisitng mechanical services.

Project Data: Completed August 2008.  Value $950,000

 

The Pines Aged Care Facility Redevelopment

Major expansion and redevelopment of this Southern Cross Homes facility undertaken in 2 stages.  Stage 1 consisted of two separate new two story buildings with 142 beds and stage 2 with 32 beds.  Support services in the new buildings include main entrance and office facilities, kitchens, cafe / dining, maintenance workshop and a medical centre with doctor and dental facilities.

Services Description
The occupied spaces are served by a variety of variable refrigerant volume (VRV) and stand alone split a/c systems providing comfort conditions to residents and staff.  Support facilities are serviced by various ducted fresh air and specialist exhaust systems.

Project Data
Stage 1 completed February 2009 with Stage 2 now approximately February, 2010.  Total Mechanical Services value approximately $1.3 million

 

Alwyndor Nursing Home

Alwyndor Nursing Home Project Description
Stage 3 of a major refurbishment of this nursing home facility included the demolition and refit to existing building and erection of a new nursing wing. The work included upgrades to the kitchen and laundry areas.

Services Description
The accommodation rooms were served by multi-head high wall air conditioning systems with general purpose and administration areas provided with ceiling cassette and ducted a/c units. Fresh air is introduced to the occupied areas using reverse cycle a/c systems coupled to air to air heat exchangers. The kitchen and laundry have evaporative cooler / gas heater units installed.

 

 

Angaston Hospital

Angaston Hospital Project Description
This project was for the upgrade of the operating theatres. As the Mechanical Services formed the majority of the work Westside was engaged as head contractor including all building works.

Services Description
The Mechanical Services works included de-commissioning the existing redundant a/c systems and supply and installation of new packaged style, ducted air conditioning units. The installation included High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters at each supply outlet together with provisions for adjustment to the supply air fan as the HEPA filters block. Building works included ceiling removal and re-instatement, wall and roof penetrations, external concrete plinth etc.

 

 

 

Ashford Community Hospital

Ashford Community Hospital Project Description
These works were part of an ongoing commitment by the operators of the Ashford Community Hospital to replace the aging refrigerative air conditioning systems with chilled and heating water central plant, ducted systems. For this contract Westside was engaged as the head contractor including building works and other services modifications to the Keswick Ward.

Services Description
The Mechanical Services portion of works included the de-commissioning and removal of redundant a/c systems serving the patients rooms. These were replaced by chilled / heating water ducted fan coils. The existing chilled water system was also modified including supply and installation of a new expansion tank and running new chilled and heating water supply pipe work to the Keswick Ward. Also included was the removal and re-instatement of ceilings, painting, cleaning, making good, modifications to the fire sprinkler system and expansion of the computerized Building Management System (BMS).

 

 

Elderly Citizens Homes - Manson Towers

Manson Towers Project Description
This is an existing 10 story building in Glenelg housing elderly residents. Each floor has approximately 8 apartments with communal day areas on the top and ground floors. This project was part of an overall services upgrade undertaken by ECH.

Services Description
The Mechanical Services portion of the works included supply and installation of roof mounted, packaged air conditioning units designed to supply conditioned 100% outside air to the foyer and hallway areas at each level. Sheet metal riser duct work was installed in service riser the full length of the building. Our works also included an electrical consumer mains upgrade and replacement of the existing Main Switch Board (MSB).
