Having successfully undertaken many large projects of a complicated nature in the private sector of the commercial and industrial sector of the building industry Westside Mechanical Contracting Pty Ltd is now registered as a DTEI Category 1 specialist services contractor. for projects in excess of 2.5 million dollars This allows us to now demonstrate our ability and professionalism in the government public sector.

Project Description
DTEI Building Management Facilities Services on behalf of the Courts Administration Authority (CAA) engaged the building services engineers, System Solutions Engineering to provide a suitable method of replacement for the ageing chillers. The feasibility study highlighted the fact that the existing Luke chillers were at the end of their economic life.
Westside was selected to replace the chillers with the work being undertaken in 2 stages. Both stages provided an engineering and logistical challenge due to the limited access to the basement plant room.
Access to the basement plant room was provided by a prisoner transfer lift serving the basement holding cells, with a doorway opening of only 700mm. In an Australian first, BITZER were able to manufacture a modular skid frame in two pieces, one to house the high efficiency screw compressors with the second housing the plate heat exchangers for the evaporator and condenser. Westside undertook final assembly and the interconnection refrigeration pipe work, connection to the existing chilled water header and existing cooling towers. Stage 1 consisted of 3 x 200 kW compressors (as pictured below) and stage 2 utilizes 2 x 250 kW compressors
A new Building Management System (B.M.S) was installed and provides a much improved information presentation format via the user friendly graphics display, with live status of chilled water flow and all fault and alarm signals from the chillers. This control system is able to provide instantaneous energy consumption associated with the chilled water flow, and automatically rotates the operation of the chiller staging and loading of the five new compressors to provide the highest efficiency available.
Both stage 1 and stage 2 were completed on time and on budget delivering a very successful outcome to the client, largely due to the collaborative involvement of the project team.

Project Data
Completed July 2007. Mechanical Services value approx $750,000
Project Description
Christies Beach Police Station & Court House and administration areas.
Services Description
Reverse cycle packaged and split style air conditioning systems incorporating economy cycles. Ducted exhaust and fresh air systems. Computerised Building Management System (BMS) control the operation of the systems.
Project Description
As the Mechanical Services formed the major extent of work Westside was appointed as head contractor including the building works which consisted of removal and re-instatement of ceilings, major wall penetrations and building of an enclosed mezzanine floor plant room. The works were undertaken in the concourse area of the railway station where patrons board and leave Adelaide's train services.
Services Description
The intent of the Mechanical Services was to place the area into a positive pressure to prevent the ingress of diesel fumes and to provide cooling to the concourse. This was successfully undertaken via the use of a remotely located, ducted evaporative cooling system.
Project Description
A community swimming centre consisting of an Olympic size lap pool, diving pool, and children's play and swim areas. Support facilities include change rooms, cafeteria, merchandise store and administration offices.
Services Description
Westside was engaged as the head contractor including Mechanical Services, mains electrical upgrade, demolition and building works, structural steel support frame etc. Along with some supplementary systems the main project was to supply and install large extraction systems with their intakes high into the underside of the existing pyramid roof structure for the removal of hot air buildup. This included building a major scaffolding system onto the bottom of the main diving pool using scuba divers and riggers. Supplementary a/c systems included evaporative / gas heater combo units serving the change rooms and various ducted exhaust systems.
Project Description
Two story office and special purpose policing facility including holding cells, public area and general administration.
Services Description
Mechanical Services works included modifications and additions to the under performing existing air conditioning systems. A new 100% outside air a/c system was installed serving the holding cells consisting of a ducted reverse air conditioning units incorporating a supply air dump back and air to air heat exchanger. A computerized Building Management System (BMS) now controls the Mechanical Services systems.
Project Description
This award winning community project, commissioned by the City of Marion Council includes a community library, class 1art gallery, café' restaurant, multi-purpose lecture / performance hall complete with stage and tiered seating and administration facilities.
Services Description
The library, offices, multi-purpose hall, art gallery and administration areas are served by split ducted and roof top packaged style air conditioning systems, The café' uses two evaporative / gas heater combination units. A gas fired, desiccant dehumidifier serves the art gallery. A computerized Building Management System (BMS) controls the Mechanical Services systems.
Project Description
Westside has undertaken numerous projects within Adelaide's Parliament House working as head contractor with the building manager in order to cause minimal disruptions to our parliamentary processes. Much care was taken working with this heritage listed building.
Services Description
Our first project was to supply and install air conditioning systems to provide comfort conditions to the top floor communal areas. This included the supply and installation of chilled and heating water air handling systems together with a roof mounted packaged a/c system. Building works included construction of new plant rooms to house the air handlers, ceiling removal and re-instatement and roof works. The second major project was to remove major exposed sheet metal air conditioning duct work from the roof and light wells and replace the same with new. Associated works included alteration to chilled and heating water pipe work, manufacture and installation of roof structural steel work, removal and replacement of roofing and gutters, painting and make good. The craning portion of the works involved liaison with the Adelaide City Council for major traffic control on King William street including pedestrian hoarding and traffic bollards.
