University of Adelaide WAITE Plant Accelerator

WAITE main photo_small.jpgProject Description
This purpose designed and built facility is for the University of Adelaide's scientific research into the growth of plants - or specifically the 'accelerated' growth. Cut into the side of a hill the upper ground floor has various sized climate controlled glass houses.  The lower ground floor below houses laboratory and testing facilities, office administration and the thermal plant rooms.

Services Description
Westside was proud to have been selected to supply and install the intricate Mechanical Services systems specifically designed for this important facility. Controlled conditions will be provided using air cooled chillers and atmospheric gas fired boilers.  Air handlers are fitted with modular evaporative cooling panels on the fresh air intake to temper the outside air and together with chilled and heating water coils delivery conditioned air to the spaces.  Perimeter glass houses are served by evaporative coolers and heating by exposed 'hydronic' copper coils fed from the boilers.  Our scope also included a compressed air system, cyclone dust extractors, cool room equipment and fume cupboard.  All systems are tied together with a purpose designed Building Management System (BMS).

Project Data
Completed in November 2009.  Mechanical Services value $3.4mil

Art Gallery of South Australia

Art Gallery 1.JPG

Project Description
Westside was selected to undertake this major services upgrade for the Art Gallery of South Australia as the controlling contractor responsible for all of the site activities working direct with the government and Gallery management.  The facility remained open to the public during the refurbishment creating a major challenge for all parties involved.

Ltd. the completed mechancial system uses the Shaw Method of Air Conditioning (SMAC) technology and is controlled by a new Invensys, Building Management System (BMS).

Project Data
Completed end of October, 2009.  Project value approximately $1.1mil
